Next month, a recruitment agency celebrates 10 years as one of Brighton & Hove’s largest suppliers of professional care staff. Hanover Care, whose offices are in Church Road, Hove have been supplying nursing, care, support work and nursery staff to establishments in East and West Sussex since April 2000.
“We wanted to offer a cost-effective solution to local nursing and residential homes,” says Richard Hearn, one of three directors. “And it was also about getting the simple things right – listening to what our clients want, matching them with the right staff and keeping everyone updated about the status of any booking.”
The two other directors are Marilyn and Nick Jackson-Smith. Marilyn takes up the story: “Over the decade, Hanover Care have grown year on year and we currently have more than 200 staff on our books. I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved, in particular working in partnership with local authorities, NHS trusts as well as many nursing homes, nurseries and schools.” The company have also built a strong reputation in domiciliary care, a department which has enabled many people to maintain independence in their own home.
The biggest expansion in the last couple of years has been into various support work roles. This includes supported living schemes, plus units that cater for adults and children with learning disabilities, mental health, challenging behaviour, refuge and homeless projects. Ensuring any staff sent are experienced, thoroughly vetted and professional is vital.
Working for an agency has changed over the last ten years. The obvious advantages still hold true - flexibility to choose when and where you work, and tailor your hours to suit - but now many further benefits are in place. These include holiday pay, ongoing support and regular training. As well as attending courses on topics such as Safeguarding Adults and First Aid, all staff are encouraged to undertake NVQ’s.
So with many companies struggling through the recession, what sets Hanover Care apart? ‘Teamwork’ says James Williams, one of the care consultants. ‘Hopefully, we’ve created a welcoming environment for our staff to come into. We, in the office work with our staff and clients, listening closely to what they need, that’s what makes us different. I feel strongly about that.’
For this reason, Hanover Care would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all their staff whose commitment and caring nature have helped to build the company’s reputation, and all their clients for the loyalty shown over the years.
An open day will be held on Friday 19th March (10am – 4pm) in their offices at 71 Church Road, Hove. Whether you’re an existing client, staff member, or someone looking for work, come and help them celebrate their ten-year anniversary.
